MedStat Ambulance Service started its air service on April 1, 2010. Since the new service took to the sky, it has been a valuable part of patient care in Attala and surrounding counties. In a commitment to continuing safety and quality patient care, MedStat held a training class in the Attala County coliseum on Saturday morning. The main purpose of the course was to teach emergency responders the proper techniques of setting up an "LZ" (Landing Zone) for the Air Ambulance. The course touched on what to look for in picking a spot for the air crew to land safely as well as how the new 2.5 million dollar AStar AS350 operates. Flight Program Director Mark Galtellie lead the training with an informative talk that included a question and answer section in inside the coliseum. Emergency personnel were then brought out to the ball field adjacent to the the building to view first hand the setting up of the landing zone. MedStat Air One then flew in and landed to allow a hands on of the operations of the new helicopter.

Attala Deputies Chase Ratings

At approximately 10:40 am, The Attala County Sheriff's Department was in pursuit of an SUV. The chase, we believe, started on or near Old Vaiden Road. Chief Deputy Time Nail advised that a Brownish SUV, possibly a Tahoe, was running from him. The chase went from Old Vaiden Road to Hwy 35 North where Nail advised that the driver was getting a little wild. Sheriff's William Lee along with Attala 3 and Attala 7 joined in on the chase. Lee advised his deputies not to try to box the driver in as he was driving too erratically. He asked units to back off and just keep the subject in sight. KPD, Vaiden PD and Carroll County SO as well as MHP were notified. The subject turned right at the county line. According to Lee this was a driveway. The subject then broke through a fence and made it back to the pavement near Hwy 35. Attala 3, Deputy Randy Blakey soon advised that He and Attala 2 had the subject out of the car and in custody. Great Work to all involved!

Attala Sheriffs Office Nets $1,000,000 in Stolen Items! Ratings

The Attala County Sheriff's Department tells Kosy Online that it has recovered close to $1,000,000 in stolen equipment. Sheriff William Lee says that on July 24th, at approximately 9:00 p.m., he was contacted by the Natchez Trace Rangers and Bill Hankins, a Representative from Komatsu Equipment Company, to meet the group at a location off of the Natchez Trace near Berry Church. Lee related that he had been informed of a piece of equipment taken off of the Natchez Trace Parkway in the northern part of Choctaw County. Fortunately, the equipment had a GPS on board and was easily traced to a shed off of Attala Road 3122. However, when officers arrived they did not find any sign of the stolen equipment. After receiving a tip, officers went to the home of Kenneth Joe Taylor, a 40 year old white male, on Attala Road 3122. Taylor admitted to having the equipment in question and took authorities to its location where Sheriff Lee noticed other equipment located behind the home. Taylor was placed under arrest and charged with one count of receiving stolen merchandise. Lee then returned to the location with a "Consent to Search" and found that the other equipment was missing VIN numbers. After an expert was brought in to locate the VIN numbers the additional equipment was found to be stolen, as well. Since that time, Sheriff Lee and Natchez Trace Park Rangers, along with the Mississippi Department of Agricultural Theft Division and members of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation recovered and seized numerous items ranging from Dually trucks, campers and road construction equipment; all of which are being stored at an undisclosed location. Items had not only been taken from Attala County, but also from other locations in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas. According to Lee the items recovered have a retail value of over $1,000,000. Taylor will be charged with several other counts of stolen merchandise. According to Sheriff Lee, the investigation will be ongoing and other arrests will likely be made. Lee told Kosy Online that the Kosciusko Police Department assisted in the case. We would like to commend Sheriff Lee, his deputies and all involved for their fine work!
