In the afternoon, the Veterans Home continued the emotion as Administrator Sheri Roebuck led the program with a call for a standing applause in honor of the Home%u2019s resident Veterans....an applause that lasted some 2 minutes! Students from Kosciusko%u2019s Lower Elementary and Presbyterian Day School led the crowd of over 400 in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a stirring rendition of the National Anthem performed by Proclamation. Colonel Donnie Sims, Major General Freeman and Brigadier General (Ret.) Frank Shaw made several encouraging remarks before turning the program over to General Waller who addressed the Veterans and guests. A special poetic salute was read by Director of Nursing, Gail Rawson followed by her nine year old granddaughters (Gabbie Kelley) beautiful performance of %u201CGod Bless the U.S.A.%u201D On hand for the event were: Major General William L. Freeman, Members of the Veterans Affairs Board, General Wayne Burkes, Retired Brigadier General Jo Leslie, Former board member Jimmy Foster, Veterans Affairs Board Executive Director, Adrian Grice, Deputy Director Randy Reeves, Nursing Home Coordinator, Eric Jordan, Chairman of the United Veterans of Attala County, Emmette Armstrong, friend of the Home, Dub Shumaker, The American Legion Riders, Staff of Quality Hospice, Mitchell Sprayberry - Post Commander of the American Legion, Carthage, MS - Kosciusko Mayor Jimmy Cockroft, Aldermen Tim Kyle and Henry Daniel, VSO Roscoe Rosamond. And, everyone was touched to meet Mrs. Wilma Allen, Gold Star Mom of Sgt. Shane Pugh, who was killed in action March 2005 in Iraq. Coordinator for the Aisle of Honor, Emmette Armstrong and Administrator of Kosciusko%u2019s Veterans Home, would like to thank everyone for spending the day with our Veterans and helping us say %u201CThank you for our Freedom.%u201D Roebuck said, %u201CThe overwhelming response from the community, organizations, businesses and schools meant so much today to each and every Veteran. As I watched the young people come and greet our Veterans...their eyes met and some had awkward handshakes or maybe they just smiled and patted them on the shoulder...it was obvious that every acknowledgment meant so much to our Veterans We apologize for the video.
